Valheim Hosting Providers Compared
Plenty of good hosts offer Valheim. This page groups them by the pricing model they use, explains why that model matters more for Valheim than for almost any other game, and gives you the questions to put to whichever one you are looking at — including this one.
A note on what this page will not do
No price table for other providers, and no claims about their uptime, support or hardware. Game hosts reprice and run promotions constantly, so any figure here would be wrong within a quarter and you could catch it in one click — which would cost more trust than the comparison could earn. What each provider offers is theirs to state and yours to verify against a live quote.
Who hosts Valheim
Large general game hosts
G-Portal, Nitrado, ZAP-Hosting
Broad catalogues covering hundreds of games, their own control panels, and usually a slot-based or per-server price with regional data centres. If you already rent an ARK or Minecraft server somewhere, this is probably who from.
Specialist game-server hosts
Shockbyte, Apex Hosting, BisectHosting, GTXGaming, PingPerfect, Host Havoc
Smaller catalogues, often a RAM-tiered price list and a panel built around one-click mod installs. Tend to compete on support responsiveness and on how much of the modding work the panel does for you.
Valheim-focused and indie hosts
Indifferent Broccoli, Sparked Host, Streamline Servers
Fewer games, sometimes a single flat price for a Valheim world, and frequently the most straightforward mod handling because the panel only has to serve a handful of games.
Decentralized hosting
Valheim on Flux
Your server runs on independently operated nodes rather than one provider's data centre, and the world volume is replicated across the nodes it is placed on. Priced on RAM, CPU and disk rather than on a player count the game caps anyway.
We have separate pages on two of the biggest by name — G-Portal and ZAP-Hosting — framed the same way.
Why the pricing model matters so much here
Valheim caps every dedicated server at ten concurrent players. The game enforces it, on any hardware, at any host, at any price. So a provider selling tiered slot counts for Valheim is pricing a number that cannot go above ten — and above that, the tiers are selling you something the game will not deliver.
The number that actually decides whether a Valheim server holds up is memory, and Valheim’s memory use grows with how much has been BUILT and how far the map has been EXPLORED — not with how many people are online. Two players on a world running since launch can work a server harder than eight on a world started last week.
Which gives you the single most useful comparison rule for this game: compare the RAM, not the slot count. If a host publishes only slot tiers, ask what memory sits behind each one.
What will you actually pay?
Pick the number of vikings you expect on at once. Most hosts price that number directly. Valheim caps it at 10 whatever you pay, so here it only points at a starting tier — the memory behind the world is what the price is really for.
Valheim on Flux
$5.31/mo
6 Slots: 6 GB RAM, 2.5 vCores, 15 GB disk, with hourly world backups and crossplay included. That works out at $0.88 per slot — the unit the rest of the market quotes in, and the one that tells you least.
What is included
Backups are not an add-on: every plan snapshots the world hourly and keeps three days of them on a volume you can browse. Crossplay is on with all three UDP ports published, the BepInEx mod loader is a switch at deploy, and there is no per-player surcharge. The slot figure in a plan name is a label, not a licence you are buying.
Size by the world, not the group. Valheim’s memory use grows with what has been built and how far the map has been explored rather than with who is online, so a duo on a long-running world can need more than a full group on a fresh one — and mods add to both. Live pricing always comes from the Flux Marketplace; the figures here mirror it so this section can render without a network call.
Six questions to ask any Valheim host
Put these to whichever provider you are considering. Our answers are in the second column; we are not filling in anyone else’s.
Is the price per slot or per resource?
Valheim on Flux: Per resource, at $3.93, $5.31 and $6.91 a month for 4GB, 6GB and 8GB. The slot label on a plan is a name, not a cap we enforce.
Are automatic backups included, and how many are kept?
Valheim on Flux: Hourly zipped snapshots, three days retained by default, browsable and downloadable from the panel. Not an add-on.
How do mods get installed, and do they survive a restart?
Valheim on Flux: BepInEx is a switch at deploy. Plugin .dll files upload into a folder inside the persisted volume from the file browser, so they survive restarts and redeploys. ValheimPlus is supported as an alternative.
Is crossplay enabled, and is UDP 2458 published?
Valheim on Flux: Yes to both. All three UDP ports (2456, 2457 and 2458) are published when the server deploys.
How many machines hold the world file?
Valheim on Flux: The volume holding the .db and .fwl is replicated across the independent nodes your app is placed on, with hourly backups alongside.
How would I leave, and what do I take?
Valheim on Flux: Download the two world files from the panel at any time. Billing is monthly. There is no database, licence key or server identity bound to us.
The crossplay port is worth asking about specifically
Valheim crossplay needs UDP 2458 alongside the usual 2456 and 2457. A host can switch crossplay on and not publish that port, and the result is the most misleading failure in Valheim hosting: Steam players connect normally and only Xbox and Game Pass players fail, which looks like a problem with their game rather than the server.
It is a real gap rather than a hypothetical one — the Flux marketplace entry for Valheim enables crossplay while publishing only the first two ports, which is why this site adds the third itself at deploy. Ask any host you are comparing whether all three are open. More on crossplay here.
Switching between providers is unusually cheap
This is the part that should make the decision low-stakes. A Valheim world is two files — a.dband a.fwl— and moving hosts is downloading them from one and uploading them to the next.
No database dump, no licence key, no server identity bound to a provider. Any host that gives you file access has given you everything you need to leave, and a host that makes downloading your own world difficult is telling you something worth hearing.

Frequently asked questions
Who offers Valheim server hosting?
Large general game hosts such as G-Portal, Nitrado and ZAP-Hosting; specialist game-server hosts such as Shockbyte, Apex Hosting, BisectHosting, GTXGaming, PingPerfect and Host Havoc; smaller Valheim-focused hosts such as Indifferent Broccoli and Sparked Host; and decentralized hosting on Flux. They differ mainly in pricing model and in how much of the mod setup the panel does for you.
Should I compare Valheim hosts on slots or RAM?
RAM. Valheim caps every server at ten concurrent players regardless of host or price, so slot tiers above that are selling a number the game will not deliver. Memory is what decides whether a large, long-running world runs smoothly, and it grows with what has been built and explored rather than with who is online.
What should I check before buying anywhere?
Whether backups are automatic and how many are kept, how mods are installed and whether they survive a restart, whether crossplay is enabled with UDP 2458 published, how many machines hold your world file, whether pricing is per slot or per resource, and how easily you could download your world and leave.
Is it hard to switch Valheim hosts later?
No, and this game is unusually easy. The whole world is a .db and a .fwl file. Download them from one host, upload them to the next, match the world name and start the server. There is no database dump, no licence key and no server identity to lose.
Why do you not list competitors’ prices?
Because they change constantly and you can check them yourself in one click. A stale figure on this page would be worse than no figure at all. Ours are $3.93, $5.31 and $6.91 for 4GB, 6GB and 8GB — take those to a current quote from anywhere else and compare the memory.
